ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

While the program receives many brilliant applications, the fellowship is competitive, and there are only 25 spaces available in each annual cohort. However, all top applicants are invited to become part of the NGFP Sensing Network – a global network of over 900 practitioners, including 188 fellows. The network offers various opportunities for its members.

Each year, the program invites a diverse group of visionary young professionals who are beginning to explore the futures and foresight field to apply for the NGFP Fellowship journey. Applications are welcomed from individuals and teams aged 18-35 who are starting their journey in the futures and foresight field, as well as those over 35 with less than one year of experience in the sector.

Foresight is described as a systematic way of engaging with uncertainty by exploring alternative futures, including aspirational ones. As a discipline, it has the potential to influence future outcomes. It focuses not on predicting the future but on understanding current and future operating environments. Insights gained from foresight enable communities and organizations to recognize and respond to emerging threats and opportunities, enhancing their competitiveness, resilience, and agility.

A foresight practitioner is defined as anyone who employs a futures approach in their work to explore and understand the impacts of long-term factors and drivers of change on the future. This allows for a better understanding of how various futures might evolve and generates insights that inform decisions made today.

The program is particularly interested in emerging practitioners who use futures and foresight in collaborative ways for social and environmental good.
