ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Fellowship Program is a year-long immersive experience that builds advocacy and leadership capacity through three pillars: skills development, mentorship and a capstone advocacy project.

Mentorship is at the heart of the fellowship. Each participant is paired with a mentor who provides year-round guidance to help them refine their advocacy voice and become effective champions for access to safe, timely and affordable surgical and anaesthesia care.

Since 2023, 19 fellows from across Africa and Latin America have completed the program, driving tangible policy conversations and community change.

About the Program

The Global Surgery Advocacy Program (GSAP) works to close the surgical care gap in low- and middle-income countries. We empower the next generation of surgical advocates through training, mentorship, and community building — turning ideas into advocacy and advocacy into action.

GSAP is a joint initiative of Operation Smile, the University of Global Health Equity, and the Nkafu Policy Institute.
