Post-Graduate studies at University of Rochester| WUIN
The deadline for submitting the online application is December 1st, 2026. Applications are accepted for the fall entry term only.
Applicants can apply to the chemistry PhD program with a bachelor’s degree. The department does not offer a terminal master’s degree in chemistry.
The entire application can be completed online. There is no need to send or forward hard copies of any required document.
APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS
1. If you earned a 3.0/4.0 GPA* or higher at your undergraduate or graduate institution, then an application fee waiver will automatically be applied to your application. If you did not earn a 3.0/4.0 GPA or higher, then you will need to pay the $70 application fee.
NOTE: Requests for a fee waiver in case of financial hardship with a GPA < 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Interested students should complete this online form after submitting their application to be considered for a fee waiver. If granted, then the fee waiver will be applied to your application.
2. Full tuition scholarships are awarded to all chemistry graduate students, and they receive a living stipend ($34,480 for the 2025-2026 academic year) and health insurance.
3. In addition, the department provides entering students with a professional development and travel allowance to present their research at a scientific meeting.
4. The English proficiency test requirement is waived for citizens of the following countries whose native language is English:
Australia
Canada
Commonwealth Caribbean Nations
Ghana
Ireland
Kenya
Liberia
New Zealand
Nigeria
Singapore
South Africa
Uganda
United Kingdom
Virgin Islands
The requirement may also be waived if a student has completed at least three years of full time and in-person postsecondary study in one of the countries listed above or the United States. We reserve the right to require further demonstration of English proficiency, even if you have received your degree from one of the above-mentioned countries.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The University also has several merit fellowships for which students become eligible at various times throughout their studies. Students may be eligible to receive one or more of the fellowships, depending on academic and research performance. These fellowships will typically provide an additional bonus to the student’s annual stipend.
